The Festival Opens on Friday, 8th Janaury, 2016 from 04:00 pm at Dilli Haat, Opp INA Mkt.

This winter the colorful New Delhi, that wears it’s heart on the sleeve, is set to be taken by the fever that is literature with more than 50 expected authors, publishers, journalists, political leaders, diplomats and eminent public personalities in more than 15 stimulating discussions spread over three days from 8th January – 10th January 2016 ! 

The Delhi Literature Festibal offers FREE ENTRY for all at the heart of the city – Dilli Haat (Opposite INA Market) New Delhi which is an open air food plaza teeming with the cultural and regional diversity that is Delhi!

Like the past three years, the Festival will be inaugurated by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Delhi, Mr Arvind Kejriwal. In the presence of Sri. Munawwar Rana, Kapil Mishra, Hon’ Minister for Art, Culture & Language & Tourism of NCT of Delhi; Baldeo Bhai Sharma, Chairman National Book Trust; H.E Dr Burak Akcapar, Turkish Ambassador to India and Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Hon’ Minister for Culture, Government of India. 

With the focus to pique the interest of young budding writers, provide them with useful insights, advice and guide them on to how to get their own book published; the Festival will be hosting Penguin India, Harper Collins, Om Books and Red Ink amongst others. These publishing giants who know all the tricks of the trade will discuss Trends in Publishing with Kunal Gupta, Founder of Delhi Book Lovers in a session which will be a great learning opportunity for all inspiring wordsmiths!

Literature takes central focus at the festival as Omair Ahmad, Political Journalist, Analyst, Advisor who has worked in New Delhi, London and Washington will discuss his book The Storyteller’s Tale. IBN 7’s most well known anchor and a blogger and writer in her own right: Richa Anirudh is sure to take you on a poetic high in the session with Dr.Kumar Vishwas Populism of Poetry. 

This time the Festival truly has something for our Hindi and Urdu lovers with two sessions focused on poetry and Hindi. Illustrious Hindi poets and writers like Om Thanvi, Rasbihari Gaur who is also a well known hasyakavi, Hindi and Rajasthani writer Atul Kanak in Hindi Hain Hum with Veteran journalist and Senior Editor of NDTV, Mr. Priyadarshan is another delight that we have waiting for you!

Sahitya Akademi Award for Urdu Literature recipient for his book Shahaba, well known prose composer, one of the living legends of contemporary Urdu poetry and the soul of any good Mushaira, Sri. Munnawar Rana will also grace the occasion with his presence as DLF 2016 felicitates him for his enormous contribution to the field of poetry. 

Many names from political and diplomatic life will join in to make the festival a mouth piece for varying opinions, ideas and visions all dressed beautifully in the fabric of love for literature and knowledge to make DLF a thoroughly unforgettable experience. 

Delhi being a historical city filled with history mystery and myths inspired us to have a special session on mythology with some prominent minds and bestselling authors on the subject namely Vikas Singh of The Big Fix fame, Suhail Mathur author of The Bhairav Putras, Christopher Doyle author of his renowned debut book The Mahabharata Secret

This year’s concluding session is expected to be seminal as it implores for a Rediscovery of India by the young contemporaries based on the vision of their forefathers. A tribute session in honor of one of our nation’s founding father, Pt. Nehru’s great-grandson Rahul Gandhi, Vice-President of the Indian National Congress, Member of Parliament and the voice of youth from the country’s first major political party will engage in an enlightening session with one of the country’s most noted television journalist, NDTV’s star anchor and Managing Editor Barkha Dutt. Ms. Dutt is also a columnist, Padma Shri recipient and author of Corruption free India: Fight to Finish

Live performances by Aanch, the Jamia Millia Islamia University born and bred band of five that once rocked college campuses and is now emerging as a reckoning force of the city’s sufi, fusion and Bollywood Hindi mixes; coupled with exciting and thought provoking discussions covering a wide range of issues in a stimulating environment are sure to keep Delhi warm with energy this winter!
